SHOWCASE: "Blur" Film Projects | FilmingLife® ArtHouse
“When life gets blurry, see with your heart"
The May/June theme for our ArtHouse Film Project was led by FilmingLife® Educator Kylie Purtell and was all about BLUR.
We asked our members to think about how they could use BLUR in their films to achieve a dreamy, nostalgic feel, to draw their viewer’s eyes to certain parts of their frame, or how they could use BLUR to allow them to match old footage with new.
We also asked them to consider using specialist techniques, such as freelensing (detaching the lens from your camera) or using a specialist creative lens such as those made by LensBaby to incorporate blurry goodness into their films.
All ArtHouse themes are broken in to 2 levels. For the the BLUR theme the levels were defined as follows -
For Level One BLUR films we asked our members to create a film that includes at least one scene of intentional blur..
For Level Two BLUR films we asked members to create a film that uses intentional blur the whole way through, particularly with a LensBaby or by freelensing..
The films incorporating intentional blur that our members submitted were nothing short of wonderful, and we’re so pleased to present them to you today…
The Educator’s Choice Award has been chosen by the Lead Educator of the film project BLUR, FilmingLife® Educator Kylie Purtell, as those that fully embody the spirit of the FilmingLife® ArtHouse, and are noted for their storytelling, creativity and unique interpretation of the theme.
Megan Befort
What Kylie said about Megan’s film -
”I absolutely love this film by Megan. It transported me right back to my own childhood summers, from the sound to the dreamy blur she incorporated and the way she filmed the activities that her children engaged in. The music choice was spot on too, and combined with the audio was the perfect soundtrack to these precious childhood memories.”

Leslie Peter
What Kylie said about Leslie'’s film -
”This film by Leslie Peter is seriously just the sweetest. Utilising the technique of freelensing to create dreamy blur, as well as her creative use of editing to tell the story in a non-linear way was really just so good. Great film, Leslie!”
