Hello Color!

We have to admit that this #6filmchallenge had us giddy with excitement. We knew that when we asked our FilmingLife® Academy members to create a film with Color as a theme, the films that resulted would be visually some of the most creative and fun ones that we’ve seen to date.

Our members didn’t disappoint. In exploring this theme, members used color to show emotion, tell a story, give us glimpses into their children’s thoughts, and our favorite of all… helped us to really FEEL like we were apart of the story they were telling.

Color is powerful. In crafting a film around color, we encourage you to think outside the box. How can you build your film around this theme? How can you allow color to help guide the story you are trying to tell? Consider exploring the color panel in your editing program, or adding color in as a light leak, or telling from the perspective of your child and their favorite color, or incorporate materials such as prisms, fractals or tubes/straws to add color!

We hope that as you create, you'll use the films below as an inspiration!

“This film FEELS. It’s a synergy of color, music, magic and deeply effortless creativity that draws you into itself in a way that makes you forget that you’re watching a film and instead makes you feel as if you ARE the colors, the water, the smiles, the magic and the beauty that is this moment in these girls lives. Watch this. Watch it many times.”

STAFF PICK
Ashley Lewis

“Whimsical and magical… a film about imagination and color and everything good that comes from the mind of Ashley Lewis' sweet little five year old girl. We adore how she explored our color theme in a way that told us the story of what it is to be five. Beautiful work Ashley!”

STAFF PICK
Nadia Sinitsyna

“When you watch this blueberry picking film by Nadia you will truly feel the love and connection in her family, it feels like the warmest and most peaceful of hugs all tied together by the story of picking blueberries. We love that each shot she chose in her edit feels intentional, like she is guiding us to better understand the deep connections between the women in her family.”

STAFF PICK
Maureen Petru

“We love how Maureen not only explored our color theme in this beautiful film of her daughter telling us her ever changing ‘favorite’ color… but we especially love that she included an element of comedy in her storytelling. Take a watch, we promise you’ll be smiling big as you watch.”

Masks during Halloween usually involve costumes, but not in 2020. Experiencing her favorite pumpkin patch while wearing her pandemic mask there for the first time (except for photo opps!), Gaby, our fearless three-and-a-half-year-old heroine, doesn't let her mask stop her from having lots of fall fun.

The pandemic is weird and sad. Life is different than ever before. Capture this unique time in your family's history with a time capsule film. Contact me to schedule your session today.

What is the #6filmchallenge?

We loved the idea of inspiring our members to go out and create work around a theme every two months throughout the year, so we divided the year into 6 unique themes.

Our hope is that members will be inspired to create unique, personal films that are their own interpretations of each theme. So far, we haven’t been disappointed!

These are the #6filmchallenge themes for 2020:
