SHOWCASE: "Rewind" Level 1 Film Projects | FilmingLife® ArtHouse

“Nostalgia is a file that removes the rough edges from the good old days" - Doug Larson

In 2021 we introduced the ArtHouse Film Projects, a series of 6 themes for our members to create films around, supported with live learning with lead educators and lots of inspiration to get them started.

The quality of the films that were submitted in the 2021 ArtHouse was just astounding, and so we were excited to jump right back into the ArtHouse Film Projects again for 2022.

For our first theme of 2022 we decided to mix things up with our first-ever year-long ArtHouse Film Project, REWIND.

All ArtHouse themes are broken in to 2 levels, and REWIND is no different.

For Level One REWIND films we asked our members to create a Time Capsule film that combined new footage with old footage. The Level 1 films were due at the end of February, and they’re the ones you’ll see in this showcase today.

Our Level Two REWIND films are a year-long project, where members will create a film entirely of old footage, that tells a unique story from the past. These films can also include voiceovers and interview footage of the subjects.

Level Two films will be created over the course of a year because of the sheer volume of time & effort it takes to go through old footage. Some of our members are lucky enough to already have plenty of old footage digitised and ready to go, whereas for other members they’ll need to get old Super 8 and VHS footage converted before they can start, hence the longer time frame for creating these films.

To say that we were excited about this unique theme would be an understatement! Each submission so very different from the next, each incorporating old & new footage, blended seamlessly to create a time capsule film like no other!

We’re so excited to present this showcase for you today…

The Educator’s Choice Award has been chosen by the Lead Educator of the film project REWIND, Kylie Purtell, as those that fully embody the spirit of the FilmingLife® ArtHouse, and are noted for their storytelling, creativity and unique interpretation of the theme.

What Kylie said about Taylor’s film -
Taylor has delivered a masterclass in how to create an engaging & heart-moving time capsule film, seamlessly blending old footage with new footage to celebrate her father’s retirement. I was blown away with Taylor’s skillful use of transitions and other techniques to craft this story. It’s an absolute must-watch!

The FilmingLife® ArtHouse is a series of bi-monthly educator & FilmingLifer member-led film projects + showcase opportunities for FilmingLife® Members.

Lead Educator Kylie Purtell & handpicked FilmingLifers have chosen 6 themes for the year. Some themes are specific to a technique and others are more broad to give our members the freedom to interpret them as they like.

For each theme, we provide tips, tutorials, and inspiration to encourage and support Members as they work on their film projects.
