What makes FilmingLife® Academy the best choice for online filmmaking education?

It’s no secret that when it comes to online education for photographers there is no shortage of options. If there’s a niche there’s a course for it, and the same is true for filmmaking.

When it comes to creating family films in particular, there are plenty of courses that will teach you the basics of video, but we here at FilmingLife® think that the FilmingLife® Academy + Network is the BEST place for comprehensive education that doesn’t end after you make your first film.

FilmingLife® goes beyond the basics and teaches you everything from switching your camera over to video for the first time right through to working with clients and running a successful family films business. On top of the first-class education from the world’s leading family filmmaker Courtney Holmes, when you become a member at FilmingLife® you also gain access to the biggest online network and support community of family filmmakers in the world.

Of course you may say we’re biased in that opinion, which is why we asked our members, many of whom have taken other courses before, why it is that they think the FilmingLife® Academy + Network is the place to be if you want to learn how to make heart-felt, story-driven films for yourself and your clients.

Access to over 200 hours of first-class, comprehensive family film education for photographers

The great thing about learning to make family films at Filming Life Academy is that if you have a DSLR camera or even a cell phone, you can learn a whole new facet of your camera that is left untapped.

You just turn your camera to video and now with some easy prompts you are capturing sound, nuances not captured by a still image, ambient sounds, and such joy from that tiny flick of a switch!

I am a grandmother of 25 and my children love that I am learning this new skill that anyone can, and preserving the quickly changing voices and faces of the children in our family.

The lessons are the perfect length and since I am more of a visual learner I am grateful for so many video lessons that make the material easy to understand.

I’m really energized by these lessons and opportunities to create family films.

Education that is up-to-date and information on the latest advances in filmmaking gear & software

I was halfway through Introduction to Filmmaking for Photographers when FilmingLife 101: Foundations of Filmmaking was launched. The former course was already fantastic as it was, but now, it is so incredibly rich that I started back and took the time to enjoy every single piece of new information you put into it - and there is A LOT!

It definitely shows your commitment to making filming pros out of us newbies out there, by sharing this honest and rich knowledge.

Thanks for putting all of your heart into this. We can feel it and it is incredibly inspiring!

Education that’s easy to follow and will improve not just your filmmaking but your photography too!

I like how you break the course into bite sized pieces. The information seems detailed but not so detailed that it's overwhelming.

I liked the video sample of how you broke down the music to the footage as I'm not super musical. How you explained the process of selecting music made the choice much clearer and also what to listen for clarified a lot for me.

One thing I have really noticed is how my photography is becoming more layered through doing these courses.

Learn how to elevate your films through the use of music & audio

This class helped me understand many things that I was already doing intuitively but didn't really understand why (and was often making mistakes as a result of that). It was almost like it helped me move the techniques from the artistic part of my brain through to the technical part so that I could trust my instincts, but also understand why something wasn't working. I just can't say enough about it--it was a total eye-opener for me. The walk-throughs of the editing were priceless--I was just blown away by how much I learned.

Access to the biggest online network of professional family filmmakers

Why do I love FLA? It's a professional community that offers education, support, and a professional network.  All this in one place. Best investment I ever made for my professional and creative journey.

The best thing I learned thus far from FLA is just how much more there is to learn! I learned just how imperative it is to have a professional community of creatives for continued professional growth. I would not have come as far as I have in the past 6 months if it wasn't for all the resources here at FLA. The courses, the FL Network, podcasts, Keep Sake Challenge, Monthly Critique Calls, and #6filmchallenge - just to name a few things that keep me moving forward in my craft.

If you are a photographer or a film maker, that wants to learn how to make family films this is best investment you could ever make.

Be inspired and find your voice as an artist and filmmaker

What I love most about the Filming Life Academy is how I’m constantly inspired to push myself creatively and try something new. The 6 film challenges always motivates me to film more in my personal life, and the variety of techniques used and films created by other members really help me find my own voice as a filmmaker.

Educators & mentors who pour their heart & soul into their teaching & the community

I feel that the FilmingLife Academy is really a project of the heart of the great women who run the program. Everything is prepared with so much care and love. The tutorials are so informative and nothing is kept "secret". I feel the real interest in giving the participants a lot of input.
